RHS Alumni in the Spotlight
Mr, Ronnie Noblitt , "Outstanding Key Clubber of the year"
Rossville High 1959 Reunion
On May 23rd, The 1959 class of Rossville High held their 50th reunion at the Rossville Civic center. There were approximately 110 former students, spouses and teachers in attendance.
There were many past friendships and acquaintances renewed. There were plenty of fun reminiscences as well as remembrances of departed friends and schoolmates.
Many mentioned favorite teachers from their school days at RHS and some recalled classroom and other humorous experiences from those days.
In a 'quiz' of different pictures and superlatives from our 1959 annual one of the questions was, "Who was key-clubber of the Year?" Ronnie Noblitt, who was present at the Reunion was remembered as the receipent of that award. In a couple of days after the reunion I received an e-mail from Ronnie and with his permission I am submitting this reply along with Ronnie's high school picture to be viewed on the www.rossvillealumni.com site.
Hello Donnie,
I have always had the greatest respect for teachers, but when you mentioned my key club award, I should have told the class how that came about.
My favorite teacher other than Mr. Shaffner was Mr. Tudor. My Junior Year, Mr. Tudor had tried to help me get an appointment to the Air Force Academy, from our Senator Talmadge. In May of '58 I got the appointment for July of 1959. In Feb. of '59 I had to go to an Air Force base in Tennessee for a physical which I failed because of low blood pressure (which helped me in my career as an air traffic controller later.) Mr. Tudor had spent much time and effort in helping me write over a ten page resume and in gathering over ten letters of recommendation. He felt sorry for me and he promised me that he
would submit my name as 'Key Clubber' of the
year in the entire Tenn-Ky district. The letter he
wrote about me was mostly about me serving as
campaign mgr. for Glenn Campbell for governor
for the year of 1960. The delegates had no idea
that Glenn was from a Georgia club. If they had,
we wouldn't have won. That was a great victory.
I never went back to tell Mr. Tudor about my
later life. In 1978-79 I was elected Lt. Gov. in
Kiwanis. I built two new clubs and had an out-
standing year. In 1979-80 I was appointed new
club building chaiman for the State of Georgia.
Our record no. of clubs was 1925 (19). I built 21
new clubs in '79-'80 and that record still stands.
Mr. Tudor instilled in me a sense of civic pride
that carried me thru life.
I think that you should know and that I should
have said something about Mr. Tudor. God bless
him. ... Take care, Ronnie Noblitt class of '59.
I'm sure that many Rossville High teachers and students would
like to share in this story of how a former student was inspired by
a teacher to take an interest in civic activities that benefited many
over the years.
I will forward a copy of this letter to the Rossville Kiwanis club
to show what their sponsorship of Key Club means..
